Popis:Currently, more than half of the country's inhabitants are concentrated in the Central Valley of Costa Rica and the growth of the city has generated great pressure on the archaeological heritage. Thanks to institutional efforts and current legislation, this process has been accompanied by a large number of archaeological impact assessments and rescue excavations, making this one of the most studied regions in the country. However, these investigations also have serious limitations since there is hardly ever a spatial delimitation of the sites or a regional perspective that allows general interpretations. In order to systematize part of this information, data was collected and generated from archaeological sites in the Virilla River basin. Despite the particular limitations of the sample, a wide range of published and unpublished documents is synthesized to achieve an anthropological interpretation of the pre-Columbian past and to have a clearer and more objective vision of the socio-cultural changes over time in a well-defined region.
