| Description: | Research competencies are essential in higher education, particularly in majors where critical analysis of reality and knowledge generation are fundamental. The objective of this study was to analyze the level of self-perceived competency among university students in education programs, focusing on the dimensions of problem formulation and rationale and methodological design. A quantitative approach and a non-experimental design were employed. The sample consisted of students from different levels of university education who completed a validated instrument for assessing these competencies. The results show different levels of self-perception, showing greater proficiency in methodological design compared to problem formulation and rationale. Significant differences were also identified according to the research training received, particularly among students who had participated in specialized courses or research experiences. It is concluded that pedagogical strategies aimed at strengthening critical thinking and promoting students’ active participation in applied research processes need to be reinforced. |
