Description:This paper calls for reflection on a conflict of an epistemological nature, of a paradigmatic foundation of what the discipline of librarianship is or should be. The author poses a series of questions from which the conference is based: What should we call this discipline or, perhaps, a set of disciplines: Librarianship? Librarianship? Documentation? Information Science? And how can we unanimously call the components, factors and diverse aspects of documentary activities?  Additionally, it exposes the possible causes of the conflict taking as a reference the terminological disparity of the end of the 19th century, then it makes an approximation to the concept with the purpose of solving the epistemological problem. He also gives his opinion as to whether documentation can be seen as science or information and finally presents his conclusions.
