| Beskrivelse: | The article identifies, and contextualise, the principal education policies of the government of João Goulart (Brazil, 1961-1964), based on a bibliographical approach. This is an original object, since works on this subject to date have been based on partial approachhes. This historical map of the education policies of the government of João Goulart is constructed, in methodological terms, from a review of the main secondary sources in two adjacent fields of historiography that have been studied extensively: the government of João Goulart, and Brazilian education policies of the third quarter of the 20th century. To present the results of this review, the article is organised in five sections: the first describes the general context of the country in the 1950s and 60s, the second discusses Brazilian education during that period, the third focuses on the principal characteristics of João Goulart’s government, and the fourth, the heart of the work, concentrates on its education policies. The fifth section, by way of conclusion, summarises the arguments presented and reflects on the scope of the study. |
