Descrição:Prostitution is a social reality that affects vulnerable populations and increases their vulnerability. Prostitution is often addressed from a social or legal perspective, leaving aside consideration of the spiritual experiences of people affected by prostitution. This article presents the results of a case study of the experiences of five women survivors of sexual exploitation in El Alto, Bolivia, in relation to spiritual practices and contact with faith communities. The women’s responses describe experiences with both oppressive and liberating spiritual practices inside and outside brothels.
