その他の書誌記述:The 19th and 20th centuries in Costa Rica witnessed a profound cultural and intellectual transformation. Modernization, driven by innovations such as the railway, radio, and other technological advances, reshaped the country both urbanistically and culturally. The establishment of the University of Costa Rica and a series of legal reforms laid the foundations of the modern nation, influenced by social and political movements that sought social justice and democracy. While modernization introduced new values and consumerism, it also exposed the shortcomings of the liberal model. As Costa Rica sought to emancipate itself from European thought and forge its own cultural identity, prominent figures emerged who embodied Costa Rican humanist thought. Among them were Manuel González Zeledón and Roberto Brenes Mesén, who, together with Joaquín García Monge, Carmen Lyra, and Omar Dengo, shaped the country's literary, educational, and philosophical landscape.
