Descrizione:An analysis is conducted of the situation of French language teaching in Costa Rica from a glottopolitical and descriptive approach. The study of educational policies, institutional frameworks and data from the Labor Observatory of Professions points to evidence of a linguistic hierarchy that benefits one language to the detriment of other foreign languages. Additionally, university programs, institutional coverage, and the working conditions of the teaching staff are examined. The text concludes that, although French maintains an institutional presence, its sustainability is threatened by the lack of an equitable and multilingually-oriented language policy.
