Descripció:The study was carried out between February and June 2016, in the North Huetar region of Costa Rica. The objective was to identify the productive and socioeconomic situation of the goat production systems in the region. The CENAGRO (2014) database and a tool (survey) were applied to active members of Coopecaprina R.L. Fifteen variables were used (11 qualitative and 4 quantitative). The absolute and percentage distribution for qualitative variables and the results of central tendency and dispersion for quantitative variables were determined using descriptive statistics (with the statistical software PSPPIRE (PSPP + GUI)). In general, 52% of the members of Coopecaprina R.L. own between 1 to 40 animals in stall housing and dedicate their production to the local market and sale on the farm. Of those, 50% are led by men with primary schooling who work internally on the farm. In the North Huetar region, 94% of the farms have less than 20 animals that are kept in grazing systems based on natural pastures and use the production for sale on the farm. Fifty four percent of these systems are run by men who have primary schooling, do not associate in organizations, and work without pay on their farms.
