Miêu tả:Both in his novel, Por si nos da el tiempo (2002), and in his critical works, Desencuentros de la modernidad en América Latina (1989) and Paradojas de la letra (1996), Julio Ramos constructs a theoretical and literary framework that can be read in a biographical key, as it cannot be understood without addressing the fundamental role that migration played in his intellectual and literary formation. The central hypothesis of Los desencuentros, according to which José Martí was able to write a key text for Latin American politics and culture such as “Nuestra América” precisely because of his experience in exile, finds its correlate in Ramos’ own migratory experience. This paper attempts to understand the importance of exile in Latin American literary production, based on a readingof the aforementioned texts, but also of Martí’s poetic production. It aims to elucidate the ways in which the migratory experience appears not only expressed in these works, but also the way in which writing itself is represented, based on the hypothesis that literary production, as well as the use of techniques such as quotation, allows the poet, as Ramos argues, to build a home against the fragmented experience of exile.
