Description:This article analyzes the book by Guatemalan writer Rafael Arévalo Martínez, ¡Ecce Pericles! (1945). Arevalo´s work narrates the life of dictator Manuel Estrada Cabrera and the evolving of the political movement that overthrow its government gathered around Partido Unionista. The main assessment of the article is that by choosing the form of biography, Arevalo emphasizes the racial indigenous origin of the dictator and the minority and impotence of the oppositional, racially white movement. From the point of view of Arevalo, this biopolitical contradiction condemns Guatemala to a permanent dictatorship.
