Disgrifiad:Between July and December 2004, avian guilds were evaluated within twelve livestock farms, in the area of Esparza, Province of Punta-renas, Costa Rica. In each farm, one agricultural plot of each available land use type was randomly selected, and birds were recorded from the centre of the plots during 10 minutes using 25 m fixed-radius point counts. According to the results, insectivorous birds were the most abundant, and at landscape scale, 23 species of particular conservation value were recorded. In conclusion, the presence of forest fragments clearly influence the composition of bird guilds in the agro-ecosystems studied, which underlines the importance of the conser-vation of remnant forest patches inside of this kind of productive systems..
