| Opis: | Bananas are a crop of great economic importance worldwide; however, their production is threatened by various pests, including plant-parasitic nematodes. This study evaluated the nematicidal effect of extracts obtained from Brugmansia suaveolens (reina de la noche) flowers and Acnistus arborescens (güitite) leaves against populations of Radopholus similis under in vitro conditions. The tests took place 30 and 45 hours after exposure at the Nematology Laboratory of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Universidad Nacional (UNA), Costa Rica, in 2021. The results revealed significant interaction between the treatments and the exposure time (p < 0.0004). At 30 hours, applications with A. arborescens at concentrations of 1%, 1.5%, and 2% caused mortalities ranging from 23% to 32%. At 45 hours, the application of B. suaveolens at 2% (T6) produced the highest mortality (54%), followed by trials T4, T2, T5, T3, and T1. The control showed values of 23% and 28% in the respective evaluations. The mixture of both extracts (T7) did not show an additive effect. These findings support the potential use of these plant species as sustainable alternatives for nematode management in agricultural systems. |
