| Descripción: | This text provides a commentary on the exhibition Cartografías del Corazón (2025) by Costa Rican artist Sussy Vargas Alvarado. It examines how the artist takes up a central theme of Catholic tradition, namely the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The themes of the theological tradition such as blood, sacrifice, pain, and redemption are reoriented by the artist with the intention of conveying other possible experiences of our bodies. This text is also about the place given to the Other, for whom any access to that which is more intimate to us is possible. The concluding section is about the need to expand the ways in which bodies (human and non-human) can relate in gratifying ways in a context characterized by acardic sovereignties. |
