Beschreibung:This article addresses the possibility of sustaining the existence of unamendable facts, both natural and social, against the postmodern premise according to which there would be no facts but only interpretations, a premise that, by reducing reality to discursive power, would invalidate the very possibility of political critique and social emancipation. The starting point is the distinction, articulated by Maurizio Ferraris, between ontology —what there is— and epistemology —what we know there is—, a distinction whose systematic confusion, termed the being-knowing fallacy, would constitute the theoretical core from which both cognitive relativism and its political consequences, synthesized in what Ferraris himself calls realitysm, are derived. To this first path is added Markus Gabriel's ontology of fields of sense, according to which to exist is to appear in a field of sense, so that the irreducible plurality of such fields allows for an ontological pluralism that does not dissolve into relativism, since real things, although dependent on interpretation in general, remain independent of any individual interpretation. Building on these two convergent paths, it is argued that the theory of documentality and the ontology of fields of sense jointly restore the independence of the physical and institutional world, offering an epistemological foundation from which to combat post-truth, media manipulability, and denialism. To this end, a comparative conceptual analysis methodology between both proposals of New Realism is adopted, understood as the philosophical framework that restores the unamendability of the real without incurring either metaphysical dogmatism or reductionist positivism.
