The colonization of common sense: hermeneutical opacity and the deprivation of interpretive resources in the age of post-truth

| Diğer Bilgiler: | This article examines a phenomenon that, until now, has been addressed only partially by social epistemology: the systematic erosion of shared interpretive resources in digitally mediated public spheres. Drawing on the foundational framework of epistemic injustice (Fricker, 2007) and its subsequent extensions (Dotson, 2011; Medina, 2013; Pohlhaus Jr., 2012), this paper proposes the concept of hermeneutical opacity as a category that accounts for the sociotechnical mechanisms through which post-truth and algorithmic attention economies deprive communities of rigorous conceptual frameworks with which to interpret their own social experience. It is argued that this opacity constitutes a form of structural hermeneutical violence, distinct from mere factual distortion, whose consequences disproportionately affect historically marginalized groups. Finally, some normative pathways aimed at the reconstruction of the public lexicon are outlined. |
