Description:In this analysis of the novel El desván [The Attic], by Ramón Jurado, the concept of becoming-inhuman as a criticism of positivism is discussed. Concerning its differences, an explanation is provided of how A través del tormento, by Francisco Clarck, is the referent of El desván. Attention is given to the impact on Jurado’s novel of works whose existentialist dimension offers a significant background for the writing of El desván. These include Nausea by Sartre, El pozo by Onetti, and The Outsider by Camus. Finally, the pervasive element of the libidinal in Jurado’s novel is addressed.
