The end of Eschatology: Derrida´´ s specters of Marx and the futures of Luke´ ´´s Christ

| Diğer Bilgiler: | This paper argues that recent biblical scholarship focusing on eschatology, particularly Lukan eschatology, is part of the cultural milieu of Late Capitalism. Rather than being subsumed into the binary of imminent vs future hope, this paper rereads so-called “Lukan fulfillment” through the lens of Jacques Derrida’s Specters of Marx. Focusing primarily on the kingship of Jesus, this paper argues that despite certain eschatological proclamations, Jesus was never king of any people or place. Therefore, reading from a time where hopeful messianic narratives have been subsumed under Capitalist narrativity, now is the moment to consider, as Kotrosits has begun to show, Luke as a narrative layered with empathetic pessimism.
