Human rights defended by the evangelical church during the Salvadoran civil war (1981-1992)

| Kuvaus: | The objective of this study was to analyze the defense of human rights carried out by the Evangelical Church of El Salvador during the civil war from 1981 to 1992. The data analysis involved examining relevant historical sources to determine the actions undertaken by historical Baptists and the Central American Mission (CAM). Among the main findings, it was observed that the Baptists prioritized rights such as life, security, religious freedom, equality, education, and peace; while CAM emphasized life, food, housing, work, and solidarity. The study’s implications reveal that both groups emerged as active defenders of human rights and contributed to the recovery of historical memory regarding their involvement in the armed conflict. Based on these findings, it is considered necessary to broaden comparative research with other evangelical denominations and to include oral testimonies from surviving protagonists, in order to deepen the understanding of the evangelical commitment to human rights. |
