| Descrizione: | Generational renewal is a social and agro-productive phenomenon linked to the marked aging of the rural population and the low participation of young people in agriculture and livestock activities. The need to review the related concepts and associated elements has been identified. In summary, it is a process through which generations acquire, share, and transfer participation, leadership, and rights over: (a) decisions in productive activity, (b) ownership of assets [land and livestock], and (c) benefits and profits, through an intergenerational dialogue of knowledge. The following stages are identified: initiation, integration, joint management, and progressive withdrawal. For generational renewal programs to be successful, they must consider economic and technological variables of agricultural and livestock activity within a framework of secure business, without overlooking cultural and social variables such as rootedness and the satisfaction of needs, which have a decisive influence. A secure business should be understood as an activity in which minimum guarantees exist for the purchase of the product, transparent and informed mechanisms are in place for price setting, and there is support and defense from trade or producer organizations. The viability and sustainability of agricultural and livestock production depend on generational renewal. The future of food and agriculture is in the hands of the next generation of family producers. |
