| Deskribapena: | This work aims to present La Vie Scélérate as a novel rooted in an identity-based, historical, and post-colonial approach. Maryse Condé offers a reinterpretation of the history of Guadeloupe and other territories around the Caribbean basin, highlighting voices long silenced by colonial discourse. Furthermore, through examples of oral tradition and family narratives drawn from the text, the article emphasizes the use of fictionalization as a tool for asserting identity and history, where writing becomes a political and committed act in the face of the alienation of identity and the distortion of the history of colonized peoples. We attempt to demonstrate how Condé departs from the European model of the historical novel to offer a hybrid style of writing, perpetually searching for identity. Ultimately, this novel falls within the lineage of literary movements such as Negritude, Antilleanity and Creoleness, which seek to redefine Antillean identity outside the frameworks imposed by the metropolis. |
