| Description: | As in the rest of the world, agricultural production in Costa Rica is facing increasing challenges due to climate change. With the aim of systematizing evidence to support the elaboration of public policy, this article presents a systematic review of the current scientific literature about the impacts of climate change on the country’s agricultural production, addressing climatic factors, projected impacts, and recommended adaptation strategies. We analyzed 130 studies published between January 2016 and March 2025, which indicate the impacts and projections of climate change on agricultural production and its consequences for the country’s food and economic security. This article summarizes the findings and recommendations of ten studies. Overall, the results indicate decreased productivity, increased pests, diseases, and animal mortality, due to rising temperatures and changes in the precipitation patterns. The risks of production losses associated with extreme weather events are also highlighted. Furthermore, the studies recommend investing in and promoting better water management and conservation, investing in research into new varieties adapted to climate change, and innovation to promote more sustainable and resilient agroecosystems. |
