| Kuvaus: | This article analyzes culturally charged terms related to “fictional orality,” their intrinsic contextual relationship, and their impact on translation decisions. Two English versions (1968 and 2000) of Carmen Lyra’s “Uvieta” were selected; their culturemes were identified and systematized according to the translation strategies used. Representative extracts were analyzed based on meaning, importance within the source text, and translational difficulty. These three criteria are fundamental; even when the same linguistic resource conveys both cultural information and “fictional orality” in a given context, translation decisions could favor one aspect at the expense of the other. |
