Deskribapena:A test was made to determine the viability of one native nematod strain as feed for advanced postlarval stages (PL 6 – PL 10) of Penaeus vannamei. The test consisted of three treatments: in the “artemia treatment” the postlarvae were fed with a known fresh weight of Artemia nauplii, in the second treatment the same ration was applied using the native nematodes and in the third treatment the nematode ration was doubled. Postlarval quality was then compared by means of size, survival, branquial development, stress test and size dispersion. Postlarvae fed with Artemia had the best average size (6,4 ± 0,8 mm) and survival of 89%, against both nematod treatments (6,2 ± 0,8 mm and 75% and 5,9 ± 0,7 mm and 69% respectively). Stress and branquial development tests showed no significant differences between the treatments. Size dispersion in all three treatments did not exceed the maximum limit of 15% proposed by CLIFFORD (1992). It is concluded that the native nematod strain can be used as a substitute of Artemia spp. in the feeding of postlarval stages (PL 6 – PL 10) of P. vannamei.
