Social and curricular considerations regarding university training in psychopedagogy

| Descripció: | This essay explores the current urgent situation in Costa Rica's educational context in light of growing inequality and violence, educational backwardness before and after the pandemic, and the crisis caused by reduced state investment in education. Given this scenario, psychopedagogy is proposed as a field of study that offers alternatives for understanding and intervening in teaching and learning processes from a humanistic and systemic perspective, incorporating the empowerment of educational communities and individuals involved in teaching-learning processes. In this essay, psychopedagogy is understood as essentially interdisciplinary, analyzing contributions from psychology, learning assessment, guidance, and special education. Psychopedagogy is proposed as highly relevant in social-community intervention within educational contexts. Thus, it is proposed that psychopedagogy should transcend clinical care or psychodiagnostics to intervene in the educational phenomenon from an interdisciplinary and socio-educational approach. This reflection explores the possibilities of specialization in psychopedagogy through the different existing or potential curricular alternatives, in order to offer a comprehensive contribution from public higher education, given the pressing needs in the educational crisis that Costa Rica is undergoing. |
