| Περιγραφή: | This article conducts a historical analysis of indigenous shipbuilding in the Embera-Wounaan territory located on the border between Panama and Colombia. The main objective is to understand the adaptive process of this activity over the past century. The study examines various documented constructions in different communities, taking into account their technological needs and the specific demands of the ecosystem in which they live. It highlights the variety of trees used, considering the unique situation of each community and the availability of resources. The research is based on a thorough review of secondary sources and the author's own ethnographic records, with contemporary nautical approaches. The article concludes by reflecting on the causes behind the decline in canoe construction, emphasizing anthropological and sociological contributions, particularly in the geographic and constructive contrasts in maritime and river environments. It examines the technological solutions developed and explores how they have influenced the collapse and transformation of indigenous shipbuilding activities in Panama. Ultimately, this analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the evolution of this practice over time and its relationship with socioeconomic and environmental factors. |
