| Descripción: | This essay provides an overview of the transformation of farms into systems free from animal exploitation, examining the challenges and opportunities that may arise in the Central American context. For this purpose, the Costa Rican initiative Cultiva Pura Vida[1] serves as the main analytical framework. In addition, drawing on a literature review and the systematization of experiences, the essay contextualizes the significant role that livestock farming has played in the region. The text addresses speciesism and cognitive dissonance as ideological barriers that normalize animal exploitation and hinder the construction of a fairer food system. It identifies structural challenges such as economic dependence, technical gaps, and the lack of supportive public policies. Finally, it proposes a transformation strategy centered on agroecological diversification, social justice, and alternatives to animal exploitation. The essay concludes that transforming farms is not merely a technical matter, but a necessary cultural and ethical process for building resilient, fair, and exploitation-free food systems in Central America.
