Descrizione:This article analyzes gentrificaction, population displacement, and accumulation by dispossession in Mexico from perspective of the critique of political economy. It argues that gentrification is neither a spontaneous nor an exclusively cultural process, but rather a territorial expression of the capitalist production of space, articulated through urban land rent, state mediation, and capital valorization. Drawing on Marxian rent theory and contributions from critical geography, the study examines the role of the state in the commodification of territory and documents cases from different Mexican cities. It concludes that gentrification operates as a structural mechanism of exclusion that reorganizes urban space and reshapes the conditions for the reproduction of social life.
