Legal and institutional advances in the matter of human trafficking in Mexico

| الوصف: | Migration as a social phenomenon is of great importance, as it is present in all states. Mexico is no exception, serving as a destination, return, departure, and transit country for various migration flows. This has led to the emergence and proliferation of traffickers who, taking advantage of legal loopholes and the absence of concrete government strategies, exploit migrants, reducing them to commodities while facing the indifferent gaze of authorities and the invisibility of society. The objective of this work is to analyze Mexican legislation and the public policy implemented by the current government in order to identify the progress made and the challenges that remain. The research question is: What are the legal and institutional advances in the trafficking of migrants in Mexico? The hypothesis sustained is that the advances have not been significant, despite the left-leaning orientation of the current government and their discourse on rights protection. The main conclusion reached is that the advances in combating migrant trafficking are minimal because they are aligned with the geopolitical interests of the United States rather than international commitments. This has hindered the ability to address the challenges posed by this scourge to the dignity of migrant individuals. |
