Beskrivelse:This essay aims to highlight possible contradictions surrounding animal protection and animal abuse. To this end, it focuses on three central areas: selective outrage over acts of animal abuse, environmental protection that overlooks animals, and the inconsistency between supporting animal protection causes while also consuming animal products. Before addressing these areas, the essay presents several key concepts needed to understand the topic, including speciesism, double standards, animal abuse and cruelty, animal protection, and environmental protection. It also examines three qualitatively analyzed case studies from Salvadoran society, each closely connected to the three main themes of the essay. Finally, the essay seeks to draw attention to the double standards surrounding animal abuse and cruelty in El Salvador, offering a reflection on the issue and proposing possible solutions to the problem.
