Description:In this investigation the characteristics of both approaches “Management by Results” and “Management by Processes” as well as their premises, methodologies and benefits are being systematized as an input to be implemented from their context and individual realities by the leaders of a diversity of academic units within the range of Superior Education. A tool is proposed for the identification of affinities to either approach and to conclude there is a detailed analysis of the impact of each approach over subjects such as strategic planning, resource management and participative institutional integration among other elements. The utility that comes from the inquiry made, as an added value, is that an academic instance can identify which of the approaches is facilitating for the achievement of goals in its particular context.
