その他の書誌記述:This essay reflects upon the relationship between the application of the neoliberal model in Costa Rica and the opening of the national financial market, associated with the changes in the legislation and the possibilities of private banking to obtain resources from the public sector. Firstly, this essay poses a theoretical discussion, from a critical perspective, in regard to the banking and financial issue, then, it collects some antecedents about the banking development in Costa Rica, before the banking opening. Subsequently, it focuses on the link of the transformation of the national financial system with the application of a neoliberal model in the country and its first consequences. In the conclusions, it is highlighted the fact that the announced promises of better efficiency and less interest rates as part of the opening and promotion of private banking are not fulfilled; instead, public banking reveals better efficiency and less costs than private banking.
