Disgrifiad:This article presents the results of a research whose purpose was to study the relationship between education, as human capital, and the socioeconomic development of the country at the regional and national levels. For such purposes, a mathematical model was elaborated that related several development indicators with socioeconomic variables using a sample of cross-sectional data for the 81 cantons of the country. The model was estimated with the Ordinary Least Squares technique. The results obtained showed that investment in education has contributed positively and significantly to national and regional socioeconomic development, with primary education being the most important level, followed by higher education. In addition, the simulations carried out with the model allowed to establish priorities for investment in education and thus contribute to reduce the inequalities of development between regions.
