Descrizione:Preliminary results of the ecological study of the nekton and benthos of the Port of Mazatlán and adjacent estuaries from September 1976 to February 1977, show that the biological components of the system are as follows: the nekton includes 2 taxa, 11 families, 14 genera and 14 species; the benthos, 17 taxa, 86 families, 97 genera and 69 species. Based on the biotic and abiotic observations and the behavior of the estuaries, there are three ecologically characteristic but interdependent zones. Estimates of the percentage abundance, biomass, index of specific diversity, and relative abundance are presented for each zone. The ecological factors are related to the presence of organisms in qualitative and quantitative form in both time and space.
