Description:Because of the lack of a definition of the ugly that does not depend on beauty and that is applicable to literary studies, one proposes that ugliness is an independent aesthetic category. One determines lack and excess as the common aesthetic traits of the ugly and horror and disgust as the inherent emotional response they commonly provoke.
