Opis:A digenetic trematode, Prosthenhystera obesa (Diesing, 1856) Travassos, 1920, is redescribed from one specimen isolated from the gaU bladder of the fresh-water fish, Centropomus undecimalis (Bloch, 1782), collected in the Río Jaltepec. southeastern Veracruz, México, near the town of Jesús Carranza. The parasite is considered conspecific with the Brazilian specimens in view of the similar position of the cirrus pouch, the reproductive pore and the uterus, plus the form of the digestive and the excretory systems. There are minor differences, in the arrangement al the vitellaria and in the position of the male reproductive organs, which differences are not theught te warrant recognition of a distinct species. The genus is monotypic and was known originally from Brazil; its occurrence in southeastern Mexico extends, its known geographic range to the northern neotropical region.
