Daily Violence in the Lives of Women: An Approach to Sexual Harassment in Costa Rican Public Spaces

Descrizione:This article reflects on the main findings regarding sexual harassment in Costa Rican public spaces, based on the experiences of women who published their testimonies through the social network Facebook. An exploratory study based on a qualitative methodology was carried out. The narrative analysis technique was used. As the main results, it was found that sexual harassment in public spaces is a form of violence that causes significant damage to the subjectivity, organization of life and daily life of women. There is a risk of suffering sexual harassment in public spaces just for the fact of accessing them, however, some conditions further jeopardize the safety of the victims. Furthermore, sexual harassment in public spaces is fundamentally a violation of human rights that prevents the full development of women's lives.
