Περιγραφή:Since October 12th of 1492, theworld was not the same. The admiral Christopher Columbuslanded on new continent, which later was named America.When he discovered the Antilles, found that these islandswere inhabited by several tribes and the agriculture was thecenter of their lives, uses and costumes, many of them wereinherited and still are in use. The present work, describessome costumes and provides some examples of theirinfluence on names of crops such as peanut (Arachis hypogeaL.), corn (Zea mays L.) sowrsop (Annona muricata L.), sweetpitaya (Hylocereus undatus B & G) and tobacco (Nicotianatabacum L.), particular uses in the case of mamey (Mammeaamericana L.), cocoplum (Chysobalanus icaco L.) andcassava (Manihot esculenta C.), as food crops as cocoyam(Xanthosoma saggittifolium Sh), sweet potato (Ipomoeabatatas L.) and topee tambo (Callathea allonia) or nativeplants such as pineapple (Ananas comosus L.), nance(Byrsonima crassifolia H.B.K.), guava (Psidium guajava L.),coconut (Cocos nucífera L.), star apple (Chysophylum cainitoL.), guayacán (Guayacum sanctum L.) and mahogany(Swietenia microphyla L.).
