その他の書誌記述:The objective of this article is to analyze the impact that geographic exploration had on the conformation of the national identity of Costa Rica throughout the 19th century, when the process of construction of the Costa Rican State took place. The research work was based on a bibliographic review of books, magazine articles, and documentary sources referring to geographic knowledge and geographic explorations carried out in Costa Rica in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition, this article employs the Social History of Science as an approach that allowed to contextualize the fundamental contribution of Geography in the construction of the national identity in Costa Rica. This was finally expressed through the elaboration of maps and books that were the basis of school textbooks that transmitted descriptions of the physical configuration of the Costa Rican territory as an identity element.
