Descrição:The author analyzes the role of fear and hope in Spinoza’s political theory. Without going into the analysis of “common affects””, it seeks to establish the foundational character of fear in society. First, he analyzes the concept of the affect of fear as such. Later, its place within the theory of affects. Furthermore, it shows its link with the theme of memory. Finally, the formulation of fear is a political enantiosema, that is, it is a fundamental contradiction of the political. Since fear and hope have to do with the time horizon, both point to the future and the past, the memory appears as pointing to both times at once.
