José Martí: Americanness as affirmation of identity and construction of a peaceful sub-continent

Disgrifiad:Despite have death in combat, José Martí's main objective was to build a future of peace for Cuba and for Latin America, marked by freedom, justice, respect and dignity, in harmony with the «high sphere». More than the military results, he was interested in transmitting his political and social conceptions through education and culture. His poetic work reflects this point of view about the human, nature and universe. In this article we analyze how Martí sees America, the fight against tyrannies and the role of men and women in the formation of a more balanced society in the immediate and long term.
