| Omschrijving: | The mythological universe that J. R. R. Tolkien recreates in The Lord of the Rings (1954-5) had its origin by his desire to give their languages a home and creatures who spoke them. His stories were written to procure a world to their languages, rather than languages to those stories. Language constitutes the starting point of all its legendarium. However, although Tolkien's work has been the focus of study by disciplines, such as philosophy, psychology or literature, there were hardly any semiotic studies about his linguistic creations up until a few years ago. That's a surprising fact if we take into account the importance they have in life and works of the philologist. This is why we have decided to focus our work on the importance of these invented languages in Tolkien's literary work. As if it were an exciting trip into Middle-earth, we trace a journey into the different languages that represent the essence of The Lord of the Rings. Finally, we analyze the main phonetic, morphological and syntactic features of its most important linguistic creations, Quenya and Sindarin. |
