Life skills as a strategy for promoting health in children at social risk: nursing education program

Disgrifiad:Introduction: The following article is the result of the investigation done to obtain the Licenciatura degree in Nursing, in the form of directed practice. It consisted in an educational program focused on Nursing in Life Skills as health promotion strategy on childs in social risk of the Hogar Vista del Mar in San José, Costa Rica during 2014.Methodology: This practice was done using qualitative methodology and happened with the active participation of 23 children with ages between 9 and 11. Firstly a diagnostic was done in which participated the children in the program, as of the personal of the institution. After obtaining the results of the diagnostics, an educational program was developed, this was created using the methodology of workshop, which consisted in 7 sessions and a closure activity, rally based. The corresponding program evaluation was done after finishing each of the sessions and a general evaluation when the program ended (rally activity).Results: The results obtained were analized using the Conceptual Model of open systems of the Nursing Theorist Imogene King. Among these, it can be highlighted the implementation and reinforcement of these type of programs, from a Nursing standpoint, since they deliver tools for the children have a greater control on their care, and in this way, implement measures that promotes their health in an integral way. Conclusion: It is evident the need too reinforce this contents in social risk condition populations.
