その他の書誌記述:Most of the biomedical literature regarding polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been directed to the study of the disease from a pathophysiological approach, leaving aside the psychological effects and the impact on daily life that this syndrome causes in women who suffer from it. The main objective of this research was to present the experience of two young adult Costa Rican women diagnosed with PCOS from a qualitative phenomenological perspective. It was found that the experience of living with the syndrome was negative in both patients with respect to physical and mental health; but it positively impacted the lifestyle of both women. It was concluded that PCOS has particular and unique effects for each patient, so it is not possible to generalize them to the entire population; however, it was established that it is necessary for the medical treatment provided to patients to have a comprehensive and individualized approach, which takes into account all areas of daily life in order to ensure the quality of life of people diagnosed with the illness.
