Description:This study analyzes the development of the stylistic performance characteristics of the saxophone in the merengue, acquired in Costa Rica since 1990. A documentary review and interviews are carried out to contextualize and analyze the insertion of the merengue in the music scene and the studies of Costa Rican recording. It is concluded that the style characteristics of the saxophone in this genre are determined by jazz influences, solving acoustic deficiencies and political events.
