Presence of China and Latin-American in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)

Kuvaus:This document analyzes the role of the AIIB as an emerging multilateral development bank that has registered an important economic presence in China, the host nation, in addition to becoming its main creditor, whose distinctive feature consists of manifesting a high competitive level, with respect to the operation of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank; Its main objective is to grant infrastructure financing to the more than 100 members that comprise it, in sectors such as energy, transportation, COVID-19 economic recovery, water, public health and technology, identifying that India is the country with the largest amount of loans granted in 5 years of existence of the AIIB and that Latin America shows a limited figure, representing 0.03% of the total amount subscribed by this financial institution, which includes as non-regional members: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Ecuador, the latter being the only country that has received one loan.
