Disgrifiad:The present essay examines the topic of love in Octavio Paz’s intellectual work. For the Mexican writer, love is certainly a human passion, but it is also a historic concept which was born in 12th century Provence, in relation to “courtly love.” Therefore, this article explores love from both perspectives, that is, as a feeling and as a concept. Different from sexuality and eroticism, love should be understood based on the notions of freedom, (poetic) creativity, and the reconciliation of opposites. Finally, the last section of this essay analyzes the proposed topic of love through the reading of some of Paz’s poems.
