| Omschrijving: | The Francoist regime assured of reincarnating the old Spain of the Catholic Monarchs in regressing the old ideologies of the Spanish woman’s role and place in society and the notion to keep and protect her honor and reputation as her loyal and sacred life’s mission. This paper highlights the perspectives of honor and virtue applied to the Spanish woman in El tragaluz, Historia de una escalera, Las palabras en la arena by Antonio Buero Vallejo, and La casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca. Both authors express through these works a social concern of the feminist oppression based on a criterion of forced social rules and catholic in nature imposed by the regime in which it defined the woman’s value and gallantry. In addition, Buero Vallejo and Lorca criticize the consequences applied against the woman in the absence of abiding to such said criterion that determined the fate of the Spanish woman during this time. |
