‘Invention’ of the unexplained drama: Italian press at the beginning of Mexican Revolution. The murder of Francisco I. Madero (1913)

| תיאור: | The news published about the events in Mexico in February 1913 came basically from telegrams, usually brief or limited to numbers or names since they were charged per word. In this way, notices reached the editorial offices of the newspapers and from there, the director or editor turned them into news. In this process, the invention became present and necessary and the tragedy of the assassination of President Francisco I. Madero was reported with horror, but without explanations; when there were explanations, the brevity and clear intervention of the editor to make sense of them is noted. By comparing three newspapers printed in Italy that reported this event, it will be possible to know how it was transformed into a story that, without a doubt, sought to shock its readers. |
