Omschrijving:This article offers a historical perspective on the origin and development of literary, critical, and theoretical studies around Greek comedy. It considers the works of the precursors (Plato, Aristotle, Theophrastus, and Dicaearchus of Messana), the Alexandrian philologists and scholars (Lycophron, Callimachus, Euphronius, Eratosthenes, Aristophanes of Byzantium, Dionysiades, Aristarchus, Callistratus, Ammonius, and Apollodorus of Athens), the Pergamene School of Criticism (Crates of Mallus, Herodicus, Demetrius Ixion, and Polemon), and their influence on later periods, both in Roman and Byzantine times.
