Descripció:Bauhinia proboscidea is a shrub or tree from 4 to 12 metres tall with a diameter from 10 to 25 cm when mature, sometimes reported as scandent. This species occurs on the Pacific slope of central and southern Costa Rica and extreme western Panama. It grows in primary and secondary moist forest and rainforest, frequently near streams. Pollination possibly by hummingbirds or hawk-moths. Seeds are dispersed by explosive dehiscence of the fruits (Juárez et al. 2018). The species has a small extent of occurrence (EOO = 8,347.21 km2), area of occupancy (AOO = 52 km2), locations (10 to 11), the ongoing threat of deforestation and illegal logging. This species is assessed as Vulnerable (VU).
